Why Tenerife is the perfect place for a surprise proposal

Updated: Nov 27, 2020

How we organised a surprise sunset proposal in a luxury villa in Tenerife...

Reaching that moment in your relationship when you know that you want to spend the rest of your life with your partner is something really special, and taking the step of asking them to marry you can be many things exciting, nerve racking and emotional. However something a proposal will always be is beautiful, no matter how you decided to pop the question.

Whether you keep your proposal small and intimate or make it a big grand affair, the reason at the heart of every proposal is always the same, you love this person and you want to go through the rest of your lives as a married couple.

Now we may be a little biased but we believe that the Canary Islands is the perfect place for a proposal!  Juan actually asked me (Helen) to marry him right here in Tenerife, so Tenerife engagements already have a firm place in our hearts, and with good reason.

The scenery in Tenerife and the rest of the islands is breathtaking. We are truly spoilt with volcanic landscapes, mountains, forests and beautiful beaches, so the options of where to ask the all important question are plentiful.

However if you would like to organise a proposal for the love of your life with some extra special touches that will really impress, then that is where Licandro Weddings comes in!

A few months back we had the privilege of organising a very special secret proposal. Our client wanted something to really surprise his lovely wife to be, a big romantic gesture that still felt intimate and private.

Our client had been planning to ask his highschool sweetheart to marry him for a little while, however Covid-19 put a small spanner in the works with some venue closers and the engagement ring taking a little longer to arrive than originally planned! However nothing stands in the way of love and as soon as the diamond touched Tenerife soil it was all systems go.

As we were working under new restrictions here in Spain our team were all fully briefed and prepared and we knew we could deliver the proposal of a lifetime, all whilst keeping this lovely couple safe and sound.

We planned for the proposal to take place in a beautiful private villa on the west coast Tenerife. This venue is absolutely spoilt for views being surrounded by Tenerife´s famous banana plantations and mountain ranges and looks over the Atlantic ocean and the neighbouring island of La Gomera, not bad as a backdrop to your engagement!

The venue is split into two separate complexes which are not visible to each other, so as the couple checked in to one part to relax and enjoy the sunshine (this lovely lady believed she was here to enjoy a relaxing weekend with her boyfriend post lockdown) we set to work in the other part.

Alongside our decoration team we created a candle lit romantic dinner for two. Bringing in a chandelier, luxury table settings and a light up “Cásate Conmigo” (will you marry me).

Our florist then created beautiful floral decoration for the table in soft pinks and whites and our catering team created a bespoke five course meal especially for the couple.

Once everything was picture perfect, it was time for the big reveal!

The groom to be had his suit in hiding with us, as we had picked it up earlier in the week. We called his phone pretending to be the owner of the villa (sorry Ines!) asking him to pop down to the other complex to pay for his stay.

Once he was suited and booted he called his girlfriend to say he was tied up chatting to the owners and could she walk down to join him. When she arrived he was waiting underneath the light up sign, on one knee ready to make his announcement.

We had pre prepared a playlist of the couple´s favourite songs and the waiting team were ready with champagne for the second she said "si!" which of course she did!

Once she had recovered from the surprise our amazing catering team served them an incredible meal whilst they dined together at sunset and toasted to what was the perfect proposal.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of such a special life changing moment.

We wish you the happiest of futures together and husband and wife!
